LED Face Mask Colours Explained: Red, Blue, Yellow & Near-Infrared

LED face mask colours represent different wavelengths of light. A colour name is only a shortcut: the exact wavelength in nanometres, the device output and the session protocol provide the meaningful technical information.

Red light: 630 nm

Red light is visible and widely discussed in photobiomodulation research. GloWave™ uses 630 nm red light within its Restore, Clarify and Total modes.

Yellow light: 590 nm

Yellow or amber light is visible and sits between green and red on the spectrum. GloWave™ uses 590 nm yellow light within its Calm and Total modes. A randomised facial study has evaluated 590 nm amber alongside 660 nm red light under a defined clinical protocol; that research should not be generalised to every consumer mask.

Blue light: 465 nm

Blue light has a shorter wavelength than red or yellow light. GloWave™ uses 465 nm blue light within its Clarify and Total modes. Reviews of blue-light research note that evidence quality and treatment protocols vary, so responsible product communication should avoid universal outcome claims.

Near-infrared light: 850 nm

Near-infrared light sits beyond visible red and generally cannot be seen by the eye. GloWave™ uses 850 nm near-infrared light within its Calm, Restore and Total modes.

Which LED face mask colour should you use?

Use one of the product’s preset modes and follow the supplied instructions. Avoid choosing a colour solely because of a broad online claim. Consider the complete specification, intended wellness routine and safety guidance.

Why wavelength is not the whole story

Two masks can list the same wavelength while delivering different light doses. Irradiance, exposure time, LED coverage, distance from the skin and fit all influence the actual session. GloWave™ states a power density of 30 ± 5 mW/cm² and uses a 100 four-chip LED array.

Where does PEMF fit?

PEMF is separate from LED light. GloWave™ integrates four pulsed electromagnetic field coils alongside its LED array, allowing both technologies to be used within one wearable facial-wellness system.
